Counselling is an active process of thinking with you, not for you or about you.
it is about empowering you; shifting the locus of control from external to internal.
How could counselling help you?...
...By providing a non-judgemental space for you to reflect on how you are feeling and how you are experiencing life; the starting point of change.
What feels like it is most in your way of you feeling content?
What parts of yourself do you dislike or feel are negative? And how do they impact your thoughts, feelings and behaviours?
.
...By helping you to explore patterns of thinking and beliefs about yourself and the world- to see how they are impacting your life now.
What self-limiting messages do you tell to yourself? And where do they really come from? How well are they serving you?
Are you in control of your emotions or are they controlling you?
Are you able to regulate your emotions or are you over or underwhlemed?
Talking through and processing feelings is very beneficial to the immune system.
Persistent low mood, anxiety or confusion are often our bodies internal warning system alerting us to the fact that something is not right in our lives and needs to change. We are not always aware of exactly what it is as very often our real feelings can become denied or distorted to ourselves. I aim to facilitate a safe and secure context to help you to uncover these feelings, by encouraging you to be more self accepting and self aware, what follows is the potential for change.
A bit about how I work...
I always aim to work with clients to provide tools or ways of coping more effectively right now, sometimes before looking more deeply at feelings. This is because it can be important to feel more safe, more able to manage in the here and now, before feeling ready to explore deeper feelings.
I feel it is really important to individualise counselling sessions to each client by listening carefully to what you need from the sessions, whether it is for example, to process some difficult feelings or to gain some strategies to manage current anxieties, and this is something that can be discussed before beginning any counselling work together.
My counselling background
After qualifying in 2008 I have been providing counselling sessions in both private practice and organisations, including MIND and NHS. I have also provided clinical supervision to students and delivered skills modules to trainee counsellors undertaking the HE Person Centred Counselling Diploma or BA(Hons) Counselling Degree.
I am trained in Person Centred Counselling and Counselling For Depression (A High Intensity Therapeutic Intervention widely used in the NHS under the IAPT scheme).
I have worked with a wide range of presenting issues, predominantly Depression, Anxiety, Relationships, Abuse, and Trauma.
I have many years experience of providing sessions on a long term open ended basis and also working in a time-limited capacity (often 6-8 sessions).
I provide clinical supervision to students and fully qualified
counsellors.
I am a registered, accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
CLINICAL SUPERVISION
I have over 8 years experience of providing clinical supervision to qualified counsellors and also those in training / students.
My objective is for your supervision sessions to be a negotiated and dedicated space for you to feel encouraged and supported in your reflections on your work with clients. It is my belief that the role of a supervisor is to facilitate the supervisee's creative growth as a counsellor, so that as well as feeling encouraged and supported, you also feel challenged, and revitalised.
